Watubala village is located in Flores island
the east of Maumere town at Sikka Regency. It is 28 km
by the road to Larantuka town. There are has traditional village and friendly
local people with their daily activities. It is the traditional weaving it is local called “Utan” or Sarong (Indonesia).
About the weaving is very different than other kinds of sarong in Indonesia it is about how to make, the tools and the motive.
With the unique motive like a bird, dragon, ant, horse and another like show it
their uniqueness. In their daily,
the sarong usually used in the local ceremony, it used in traditional dances, weeding
and almost in their activities because a time ago the local people only used
the sarong as their clouds before they find the another clouds like now, and then
the girls must can make the sarong before they see their husband because that
is the one point in weeding ceremony they will give the sarong to their husbands
family. You can buy it for gift with many kinds of type like clouds from sarong
with beautiful motive and the many kinds of bags. In there also you can find
the local craft the name is “Seneng”
Sikka local language. It’s one of the traditional craft in Flores Island and
you can just find in Maumere that’s the beautiful handicrafts for me because it
make from traditional things and from unique types. The peoples use it for put
the foods, money, put the anything it likes a bag, and they used at the traditional
ceremony and you can buy also for the gift to your country.
